Getting Started with MunroMapping
You’ve been recording your hillwalks with Strava or a GPS device. You want a map showing your entire round completion. Here’s how to create one.
For Strava Users (5 Minutes)
If your activities are on Strava, the process is straightforward:
1. Sign up and connect Create an account on munromapping.co.uk and authorize Strava access. We only read your activities to generate the map. We don’t share your data. Printed maps can have additional routes manually added, so you don’t need to worry about missing activities.
2. Choose your map type Select either Munros (Scottish mountains over 3,000 feet) or Wainwrights (Lake District fells). The map will show which summits you’ve completed based on your GPS data. If you want another hill list, let us know!
3. Customize Add a title, adjust the summit matching distance if needed. The preview generates in 3-5 minutes. We advise keeping the default distance but if you have bad GPS data you may want to increase it.
4. Review and order Check your preview. If you want a physical print, order directly from the preview page. Prices start at £65 for A2 Wainwrights, £75 for A1 Munros.
Without Strava
Don’t use Strava? We can still create your map from GPX files, FIT files, or other GPS data formats.
Email us with your activity files and let us know which map you want (Munros or Wainwrights). We’ll handle the import and work with you to generate your map.
This takes a bit longer than the Strava route, but the end result is identical.
How Summit Matching Works
We match your GPS tracks to known summit locations. If your route passes within approximately 50 meters of a summit, it’s marked as complete.
You can adjust this distance if needed: - Increase it if you have poor GPS data - Decrease it if you want stricter matching
The matching isn’t perfect due to factors like GPS accuracy, route variations, and data quality. Some reasons a summit might not show as completed include: - Activities with poor GPS reception (heavy tree cover, technical issues) - Summits you visited before you started tracking - Routes where you passed very close but didn’t actually summit
If a summit isn’t showing up and you know you climbed it, adjust the matching distance or contact us when ordering a print to get the route manually added.
Privacy
We read your Strava activities to generate your map. We don’t share this data, post to your Strava account, or use it for anything beyond creating your map.
Your preview and final map are private. No one sees them unless you share them.
Cost
You only pay if you order a physical print:
- Munro Maps: A1 (Portrait) £75
- Wainwright Maps: A2 (Landscape) £65
