Why I Built MunroMapping

David Steele ·

After years of hillwalking and hundreds of Strava activities, I looked around for the perfect memento to commemorate completing the Munros. I wasn’t able to find anything that would collate my hundreds of routes together on a single beautiful map, so I built it myself.

The Memento Problem

You’ve spent years climbing hills. Early mornings, long drives, weather that turned you back, summits that made it all worthwhile. You remember the experiences, but I wanted something tangible. Wall art that I could display and seeing it would trigger memories of adventure.

Individual route maps don’t tell the story. Photos sit unviewed in your phone’s camera roll. What you really want is a single, beautiful visualization of everywhere you’ve been, all your routes, all your summits, on one map worth framing and hanging.

How It Works

MunroMapping takes your GPS data and creates a custom map showing your completed routes and summits. If you use Strava, it’s a quick process: connect your account, choose Munros or Wainwrights, and we’ll generate a preview.

Don’t use Strava? No problem. Email us your GPX files or activity data and we’ll work with you to create your map. The process takes a bit longer, but the result is the same.

The map generation matches your GPS tracks to known summit locations. If your route passed close to a summit, it’s marked as complete. Everything is plotted on a high-quality base map designed for print.

What You Get

A physical print on premium paper, suitable for framing:

  • Munro Maps: A1 (594mm × 841mm) from £75
  • Wainwright Maps: A2 (420mm × 594mm) from £65
  • Every order includes a high-resolution digital download

The customization is straightforward: choose your title, adjust the matching distance if certain summits aren’t showing up. The focus is on making something beautiful, not on endless configuration options.

Maps are made to order so we can accomodate some user customisations and add in any routes that
